Cheating on the Holodeck
I have pondered this question for a while and have asked many of my friends where they stand. Opinions are more mixed than I thought they’d be. I’d like to know where you, dear Spwug readers, weigh in. So here goes.
If you make with the hot nookie with a holodeck program, are you cheating?

I would say technically no….however it is rather creepy. Not to mention if you forget to set the exterior door lock. Now if you’re doing it with a 3dimensional representation of Her sister than yeah, you’re in trouble.

It’s an interesting question, I would surmise that as Holo-deck technology became more and more viable the porn industry which latches on to any technology that they deem a worthwhile investment and a viable money maker would begin making holo-porn, or some such program that would allow them to capitalize on this new tech.
Another question to ask would be, if you are making it with a holo-representative of your significant other is That cheating?

I would say no, since technically you’re just using it as a sex toy, but emotional cheating can be worse than physical cheating. If they were spending more time with the holodeck than they were with me…

I’d have to agree that no, it’s not technically cheating. But if you’re caught, you’ll be single again fast enough that it won’t matter any more anyway.
If people can get routinely dumped over blow up dolls, well … this is just a far more extreme version of that.
Exception in the event that the program has taken on some kind of individual personality all its own, as in the case of the primary (some would say only) redeeming factor of Star Trek: Voyager: The Doctor.
So usually no, but it can get complicated. And no matter what, you’re probably getting dumped.

Not technically related but the doc in Voyager ( cringe ) was the second sentient hologram in ST. A few of my friends mentioned him as well, but the only Holodeck creation to become aware was Moriarty in TNG. sorry for nitpicking lol.

Yes and no, it depends on your relationship. Even legally, cheating doesn’t require actual ‘nookie’ (and is holodeck nookie real nookie?), only the violation of agreed upon limitations.
I figure if a culture has such prevalent use of tangible virtual reality, most couples would eventually broach the topic and define these boundaries.

No, but it suggests that the relationship with your spouse isn’t likely to last much longer if you keep loosing yourself in the holographic lovin’.
